It is in this urban parish, an abbey of the 11th century, that Jean Proust lived until about 1670, the probable year of his departure for New France. He left his second wife, Jeanne Chabot and his three children: Nicole, born of his first marriage with Louise Garnaud, and Jeanne and Sebastien, born of the second. When he wanted to bring them to New France, he learned that Jeanne had died. His children have remained in Poitiers and we do not know, to this day, what happened to them. As for Jean Prou, he had 13 children with Catherine, all born in Neuville.
